The talk presents the experience from employing model-driven engineering techniques and tools to engineer a physical prototype for a CPS-based manufacturing system. The prototype is composed of different manufacturing units (i.e. storage, assembly, manipulation, transportation and testing) and includes additional control entities (i.e. customers and infrastructure) to preserve the industrial requirements. All these units were built with different components (i.e. mechanical, computational, electronics and components) and consequently designed in their specific modeling and simulation tool. This one year experiment proved the efficiency and effectiveness (100% code generation capabilities) of model model-driven engineering tools to build relative complex systems, such as CPS-based manufacturing systems.
